U.S. Department of Transportation Orders Judson Mobley Logging, Inc. to Shut Down

FMCSA finds Georgia-based trucking company to be imminent safety hazard

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has ordered Georgia-based Judson Mobley Logging, Inc. to immediately cease all transportation services, declaring the truck company an imminent hazard to public safety.

The shutdown order follows an extensive review of the company’s operations by FMCSA, which found multiple violations of drug and alcohol testing, driver qualifications and vehicle maintenance rules.

“Safety is our number-one priority,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. “We will not allow commercial truck companies that recklessly disregard safety to continue operating on the nation’s roadways.”

FMCSA immediately shut down Judson Mobley Logging after safety investigators discovered that the company continued to operate its vehicles in violation of a previous agency order to cease transportation services for an unsatisfactory safety rating. In addition to violating a prior shutdown order, investigators found a range of safety infractions, including driver qualification and vehicle maintenance violations that substantially increased the likelihood of jeopardizing the safety of the traveling public.

“Unsafe truck companies that jeopardize public safety have no place on our roads,” said FMCSA Administrator Anne S. Ferro. “We will continue to do everything within our current authority to aggressively pursue and shut down these illegal actors.”

A copy of the imminent hazard out-of-service order can be viewed at http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/documents/about/news/2012/Judson-Mobley-IH-order.pdf.

FMCSA declares New Jersey truck company an Imminent Hazard to public safety

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has declared New Jersey-based J&A Transportation, Inc. an imminent hazard to public safety, and ordered the commercial truck company to shut down its operations.

FMCSA placed J&A Transportation out-of-service after numerous roadside inspections which found multiple hours-of-service, driver and vehicle maintenance violations. The order also applies to J&A Transportation, Inc.’s principals and drivers.

“Safety is our top priority at the U.S. Department of Transportation,” said Secretary Ray LaHood. “Commercial truck companies whose disregard of the law places the traveling public at risk will not be allowed to operate on our nation’s highways.”

FMCSA ordered the shutdown of J&A Transportation after safety investigators found that the truck company continued to operate without an active USDOT number and valid operating authority. Investigators also discovered that the company operated vehicles that had serious mechanical defects, and were not regularly inspected and repaired. Additionally, the company’s drivers had serious hours-of-service and driver qualification violations that substantially increased the likelihood of serious injury or death to the traveling public.

“FMCSA takes seriously its responsibility to remove unscrupulous truck companies off the road. Companies that disregard safety will be shut down,” said FMCSA Administrator Anne S. Ferro.

T2 Mood Tracker allows users to monitor their moods on six pre-loaded scales (anxiety, stress, depression, brain injury, post-traumatic stress, general well-being). Custom scales can also be built. Users rate their moods by swiping a small bar to the left or to the right. The ratings are displayed on graphs to help users track their moods over time. Notes can be recorded to document daily events, medication changes and treatments that may be associated with mood changes, providing accurate information to help health care providers make treatment decisions.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s regulatory campaign against distracted driving is a multi-modal effort that includes automobiles, trains, planes, and commercial vehicles:

Federal Employees
On September 30, 2009, President Obama signed an Executive Order directing federal employees not to engage in text messaging :

While driving government-owned vehicles;
When using electronic equipment supplied by the government while driving; or
While driving privately owned vehicles when they’re on official government business.
The order also encourages federal contractors and others doing business with the government to adopt and enforce their own policies banning texting while driving on the job.

Commercial Drivers
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) banned commercial truck and bus drivers from texting while driving in September 2010, and later banned all hand-held cell phone use by commercial drivers in November 2011.

Drivers of Hazardous Materials
In February 2011, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) banned texting on electronic devices by drivers operating a motor vehicle containing hazardous materials, in conjunction with the proposed FMCSA ban.

Rail Employees
The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) banned rail employees from using cell phones or other electronic devices on the job following a September 2008 Metrolink crash in Chatsworth, California that killed 25 people.

Pilots
After a Northwest flight crew distracted by a laptop overshot their destination by 150 miles, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advised air carriers to create and enforce policies that limit distractions in the cockpit and keep pilots focused on transporting passengers safely.
